PMI West Pasaman Targets To Build 200 Temporary Residential Houses For Earthquake Victims, Sturdy For 6-8 Months
PASAMAN - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) West Pasaman, West Sumatra has begun to build temporary housing for residents affected by the earthquake in Talamau District.
"We have made an example of a temporary housing unit for residents affected by the earthquake which was built in the courtyard of SMP 2 Kajai Talamau," said the Deputy Regent of West Pasaman who is also the Chairman of PMI Pasaman Barat Risnawanto at Simpang Empat, Antara, Sunday, March 6.
He said the temporary dwelling house was made with a size of 3x4 square meters with a separate floor from the ground with a bamboo floor covered with tarpaulin and tarpaulin walls.
"This temporary residential house can be used for one family by using doors and windows for ventilation," he said.
For the initial stage, he said, PMI will build around 200 units of temporary housing to be placed in the yard or beside the houses of residents who collapsed. "Currently we are mapping the number of temporary housing needs while waiting for the final data on the damage," he said.
According to him, the temporary housing can be used for six to eight months until there is government assistance to rebuild damaged houses.
To determine the type of damage, it will be technically reviewed by a university team that has been appointed and decided by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
He appealed to philanthropists to jointly build temporary shelters for residents affected by the earthquake. Meanwhile, the Head of PMI Pasaman Barat, Rida Warsa, said that the temporary housing still pays attention to public health.
This means that the house is safe from puddles because the floor is high from the ground, use adequate ventilation or air holes.
"The temporary housing can protect from rain, strong winds and heat and protect the privacy of residents," he said.
PMI estimates from preliminary data that around 2,000 to 2,500 temporary shelters are needed for earthquake victims.
"That's from the study of PMI data. Of course we are waiting for the results from the government's validation. What is clear is that we will build temporary residential houses," he said.
Meanwhile, the cost of making a temporary shelter only costs around Rp. 2.5 million which is made of wood, tarpaulin and has a bamboo floor with tarpaulin for the floor.
"If there is a benefactor to make a better one, of course it is very good. Because the participation of all parties is highly expected in making this temporary shelter," he said.
