Accused Of Kidnapping, Elderly Woman Arrested By Residents Of Kembangan, West Jakarta Turns Out To Steal Victim's Earrings To Return Home
JAKARTA - The results of the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim) of the Kembangan Police regarding the alleged kidnapping case of an elderly woman, turned out to have another motive. The perpetrator, who is known to have the initials K, apparently wanted to snatch the jewelry belonging to a 5-year-old boy with the initials N.
The attempted theft took place in the Kembangan area, West Jakarta, Thursday, March 3, last night. The perpetrator targeted the victim because he was in a crowded place.
"K has been named a suspect. We have secured him at the Kembangan Police Headquarters," said the Head of the Kembangan Police, Kompol Binsar H Sianturi, Friday, March 4, evening.
The police chief said that the theft began when the suspect saw two children with the initials S (6) and N (5) in a market. The suspect tried to approach him because the victim was wearing gold earrings.
The suspect tried to persuade the two children to come with him, with the intention of stealing the victim's jewelry.
When the suspect took his target, the two boys walked away from the market. Binsar said that one of the victims' relatives saw the incident.
"A witness saw that one of the children who were victims was brought by the grandmother (the suspect). The witness knew that the grandmother was not a relative of the victim," Binsar explained.
Immediately, one of the victim's relatives immediately asked for help from local residents to secure the suspect. Until finally officers came to the location and took him to the Kembangan Police.
Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kembangan Police, AKP Ferdo Elfianto, said that the suspect carried out the action in order to get money to return home to West Java.
The suspect is also known to have no relatives in Jakarta, so he does not have a permanent residence.
Still based on the suspect's statement, he admitted that this was the first time he had done this.
"This is a new admission, but we are still investigating further," he said.
As a result of his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a penalty of five years in prison.
