Everton Terminates Commercial Sponsorship Contracts For 3 Russian Companies, Including MegaFon
JAKARTA - Everton terminated all commercial sponsorship contracts with three Russian companies such as USM Holdings, MegaFon and Yota. Termination of the contract follows
Russian invasion of Ukraine.
USM Holdings and MegaFon have links to billionaire and oligarch Alisher Usmanov who was sanctioned by the European Union for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The mobile network operator Yota is part of the MegaFon Group.
Everton have agreed a 30 million pound ($39.97 million) sponsorship rights deal with Usmanov for their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium in 2020. Its parent company, USM, has sponsored Everton's training center at Finch Farm since 2017.
"Everyone at Everton is still in shock and saddened by the terrible events that are happening in Ukraine," Everton said. "This tragic situation must be brought to an end as soon as possible, and more casualties must be avoided."
Everton added that they fully support their defender and Ukrainian national team player, Vitalii Mykolenko and his family.
Usmanov previously acquired a 30 per cent stake in Arsenal but sold it to Stan Kroenke from the United States in 2018.
