No Luxury When President Volodymyr Zelensky Is Interviewed By The Media As Russian Missiles Scout Ukraine
JAKARTA - Reuters and CNN managed to interview Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when the Russian invasion showed no signs of stopping. Where is the interview location?
Requoted by Channel News Asia, Reuters reporters were taken to the interview location in a van. They headed for a building that looked like a former Soviet-era administrative office.
But the building looks the same as any other building, not flashy. Yet inside the building was the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
Though unobtrusive, the building was mostly filled with heavily armed young soldiers.
Sandbags covered the bottom of the window. The curtains were then lowered and the bright lights from the television crew shone in the darkness. A Ukrainian flag and presidential standards are moved closer.
A moment later, Zelensky and his party emerged from the corridor. They then greeted reporters with a handshake and a smile.
The thin hairs on Zelensky's face were left alone. It was obvious how tired he was when he stood on the first step.
Volodymyr Zelensky wore an olive-colored T-shirt, trousers and combat boots, as he has done in all his social media appearances since the invasion began seven days ago.
"We did not survive, we fought, and our nation will fight to the end. This is our home, we protect our land, our home. The future of the children," he said.
Zelensky said that as long as Russia's attacks on Ukrainian cities continue, don't expect too much from the achievements in talks between the two countries.
"You have to talk first. Everyone has to stop fighting and get back to the point where it started five, six days ago," Zelensky said. "It's very important to stop bombing people and then we can move on and sit down at the negotiating table."
