Komnas HAM: This Human Confinement Case Has Many Strange Things, Since 2010 But No Correction

JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Ahmad Taufan Damanik assessed that there was an oddity regarding the existence of a human cage in the house of the inactive Langkat Regent.

One of these oddities, he said, occurred because there was no correction or supervision even though many parties were aware of it. In fact, Terbit was a figure who later became a public official.

"Actually, if we look closely, there are many things that are strange or odd. First, for example, that there has been an incident like this that has taken place since 2010 and some even suspected it before that," said Taufan at a press conference 'Records of Violence in Human Confinement at the Residence of the Regent of Langkat Off' which was broadcast on the Komnas HAM RI Public Relations YouTube, Wednesday, March 2.

Taufan can't understand why no one has corrected the existence of this human cage.

"We really need to ask why there is an incident like this, it has been going on for so long but there is no supervision. There is no correction of this incident," he said.

Taufan revealed that there were a number of violations that occurred in the human cage. One of them is violence, employing other people without permission, until the applicable regulations are not fulfilled.

"There was even an incident where the torture caused the death of several people. It happened," said Taufan.

In addition, based on the findings of the human cage in Terbit's house, Komnas HAM suspects that it is not impossible for a similar incident to occur in other areas.

"I think the phenomenon that we have encountered in Langkat is a symptom that we suspect or suspect is actually happening, maybe in other areas by what we call local oligarchic actors who control various sectors of the economy, politics, mass organizations. and so on," he said.

"Then with that power, we can play a system that is full of human rights violations and violations of the law," concluded Taufan.
