2 Water Pumps Function To Overcome Floods In Pamekasan

SURABAYA - The East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) deployed two water pumps to deal with flooding in Pamekasan Regency, Madura. It is hoped that the water pump can accelerate the flood to recede immediately, which is channeled into the river.

"Hopefully the water will recede in the near future. So that residents can return to their normal activities," said the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, while visiting Sudemangan Village, Pademawu District, Pamekasan, Wednesday, March 2.

Not only that, Khofifah admitted that she had also prepared an excavator unit to clean and evacuate the remaining flood material. The excavator is also used to dredge the sedimentation that occurs in the river.

"We hope that the river's water discharge can return to normal, so that the water that has inundated people's homes can be sucked up and flowed into the river," he said.

Khofifah is grateful that the Pamekasan Regency Government is alert and responsive to the flood situation that occurred. One of them, the Regency Government together with a number of elements of the community immediately set up a public kitchen, to provide food needs for refugees and those affected.

Among them, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the TNI, Polri, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) as well as assistance from members of the Regional Disaster Management Volunteer Forum, and the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana). The public kitchen provides 1,500 packs of food packages which are divided into three sessions, namely morning, afternoon and evening.

"Thank you for the fast movement and the cooperation of all elements of society. No matter how big a disaster, it will feel lighter if we help each other and work together," he said.

According to Khofifah, the presence of a public kitchen is very beneficial for flood-affected communities, considering that floodwaters make it very difficult for residents to cook.

Khofifah also reminded the people of East Java to stay alert and alert because based on information from the BMKG, the rainy season will still last until April - May.

"Stay alert to the potential for wet hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides," he said.
