Britons Come Under Fire Roman Abramovic Leaves Chelsea

LONDON - Russian tycoon Roman Abramovic officially no longer manages his club Chelsea FC because he has received a lot of criticism from British citizens regarding the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

Abramovic, who bought Chelsea in 2003, handed over the management of the Blues to the club's internal charities.

"During my nearly 20 years of ownership at Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as custodian of the club, whose job it is to ensure that we are as successful as we are today, as well as build our future, while also playing a positive role in our community," Abramovich said in a statement. Chelsea's official website quoted by Voi.id, Sunday 27 February.

Abramovic, who is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said he would always support Chelsea forever and had given his best during his time in charge of the London club.

"I always make decisions in the best interests of the club. I remain committed to these values. That is why I today give the mandate to the Chelsea Charitable Foundation to manage and care for Chelsea FC," he said.

"I believe that at this time they are in the best position to safeguard the interests of the Club, players, staff and fans."
