Russia Reminds Local Media That Criticizes Government For Covering War Against Ukraine

JAKARTA - Russia's communications regulator accused 10 local media outlets on Saturday of falsely portraying what Russia said was a special military operation in Ukraine and of distributing false information about events there.

Among the outlets sent a warning letter were Echo Moskvy, a popular radio station, and Novaya Gazeta, a newspaper critical of the government whose editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year.

Roskomnadzor, the regulatory agency, ordered the media to remove information that attacks the government or faces restrictions on access to their media sites and resources.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine last week, and said it needed to disarm its neighbor.
