The Busy Schedule Of IBL 2022, Must Complete 132 Matches On 27 Match Days Until March 31
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) faces a busy schedule as it has to complete the remaining 132 matches in the regular phase of the 2022 competition season which will run until March 31 after the league was temporarily suspended due to the findings of COVID-19 cases affecting players, officials and staff.
IBL President Director Junas Miradiarsyah admits that this season's competition will be very busy because the national basketball team's schedule will be competing in several international events.
There are a number of agendas awaiting the Indonesian basketball team, starting from the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, the Vietnam SEA Games, and the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. Therefore, the league operators decided to condense the schedule of regular phase matches by implementing a centralized bubble system in Jakarta.
IBL 2022 was originally planned to be held in six series in six different cities. The first series took place in Jakarta on January 15-22, continued to Bandung on January 29-5 February, Yogyakarta on February 10-16, Solo March 3-9, Surabaya 13-19 March, and Denpasar 24-30 March.
“The 132 matches will be completed on 27 match days. There are two days of rest in the regular round of the bubble competition from March 3 to 31," Junas said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 23.
Junas explained that strict health protocols were still being implemented. IBL has even conducted a PCR test on February 15 to all personnel who will be involved in the competition later.
"Security and health will remain our priority. We believe that with strict health protocols, hopefully the 2022 IBL competition can take place successfully. Cooperation with all parties is needed to make our league successful," said Junas.
After completing the regular phase, the 2022 IBL playoffs are scheduled to run after Lebaran until early June 2022.
"We hope that our league will run smoothly and the Indonesian national team will also be successful," concluded Junas.
