High Waves Hit The Coastal Area Of Manoi District, West Papua, 10 Houses Were Damaged, 194 People Evacuated

WEST PAPUA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency or BPBD said 194 people from 25 families in the Klaligi Village, Manoi District, Sorong City, West Papua, were affected by high waves that hit the area since early this morning.

Head of BPBD Sorong City, Herlin Sasabone said, based on data received from the Klaligi Village, 18 floating houses of coastal residents were damaged due to being hit by high waves.

There were no fatalities. However, 25 families with a total of 194 people had to evacuate because their houses were affected by high waves.

He said that the new incoming data was from the Klaligi Village, Sorong Manoi District. Meanwhile, Doom Island, Sorong Islands District, has not been reported by the District.

"However, based on preliminary reports, five houses were damaged due to high waves on Doom Island, Sorong Island District," he said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 21.

He also hopes that the people of coastal areas whose houses were damaged by the waves can report to the local Kelurahan so that data collection can be carried out.

"Once again, we urge people in coastal areas to remain vigilant in anticipation of the aftershocks of high waves and to be ready to evacuate to safe areas," he said.
