Maluku Police Convey Sad News, Victim Of Ori-Kariuw Conflict First Brigadier Faisal Helut Dies

AMBON - First Brigadier Mohammad Faisal Helut, a member of the Maluku Regional Police (Polda), a shooting victim while on duty to deal with the Ori-Kariuw conflict, Haruku Island District, Central Maluku Regency, died at Kramat Jati Hospital, Jakarta.

The Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Police, Kombes M. Roem Ohoirat, said the Maluku Police Chief was already on his way to Jakarta to visit Brigadier Mohamad Faisal. However, at 06.35 WIB (08.35 WIT), Brigadier Faisal was reported to have died.

"The person concerned (Briptu Faisal) died at Kramat Jati Hospital, Jakarta. The Maluku Regional Police express their deepest condolences," said Roem in Ambon, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, February 22.

Roem said that plans for the funeral as well as the burial place are still being discussed with the family of the late Brigadier M Faisal.

"While coordinating with the family. We are currently trying to return the bodies to Maluku," he said.

Roem explained that previously the late Brigadier Faisal suffered a gunshot wound on Monday, January 26, 2022, while carrying out his duties during a conflict between the Ori Country (Village) and Kariuw Country (Desa).

"Then he was taken and treated at the Maluku Police Bhayangkara Hospital until January 31, then he was referred to the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, Jakarta and declared dead on Tuesday, February 22, at 06.35 WIB," he explained.

To note, the Maluku Police Chief had previously visited Brigadier Faisal Heluth, a police member who was a victim of the Kariuw-Pelauw conflict at the Bhayangkara Hospital in Ambon, last Friday, January 28.

The incident that happened to the victim has also been conveyed to the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Previously, there was a conflict between two countries in Haruku Island District, Central Maluku Regency, namely Kariuw and Ori, on Wednesday, January 26 in the morning.

The incident resulted in three deaths and two serious injuries.

Currently the conditions in the two countries are safe and conducive. A number of TNI-Polri officers have served and built security posts in the area. A number of property belonging to the residents of Kariuw has been secured.
