Garut Regent: Rapists Of 13 Female Students Deserve To Be Sentenced To Life In Prison
GARUT - Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan said the sentence of life imprisonment for the accused in immoral cases against 13 female students by the Bandung District Court in Bandung City, West Java, Tuesday, was an appropriate decision as a deterrent effect.
The Regent's response was because most of the victims were residents of Garut Regency who had been treated by the Garut Women and Children Empowerment Integrated Service Center (P2TP2A) team.
"Yes, it is appropriate for a deterrent effect," said Regent Rudy in Garut, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 15.
Rudy said that his party always follows the development of the immoral case of the defendant Herry Wirawan until now he has been sentenced to life by the Bandung District Court.
Garut regency government, he said, since receiving a report of a victim of immorality by the defendant, he immediately took the protection of the victim.
"We are obliged to protect minors," he said.
The head of the Garut Regency P2TP2A Diah Kurniasari Gunawan who is also the wife of the Garut Regent stated that the panel of judges gave an appropriate decision, even though what he wanted was the death penalty for immoral perpetrator Herry Wirawan.
P2TP2A Garut has always paid special attention to the victims of immorality so that they can return to having a better life spirit.
He conveyed that the victim's physical and psychological condition is currently in good condition, and is participating in school activities to prepare for the package exam.
"Thank God it's good, in fact I have a WA (WhatsApp) group with the victims, now they go to school twice a week to prepare for the package pursuit exam," said Diah.
The defendant in the rape case against 13 female students, Herry Wirawan, was sentenced to life in prison. The panel of judges is of the opinion that there is no element that can lighten the sentence for the defendant for his actions.
Herry was found guilty by the judge in accordance with Article 81 paragraph 1, paragraph 3 and 5 in conjunction with Article 76.D of RI Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code as the first indictment.
Previously, the defendant was a leader as well as a teacher in an educational institution in the city of Bandung, which was finally revealed to have committed immoral acts against his students, even some of the victims were pregnant and also gave birth.
