Motorcycle Thief Gang In Public, 4 Majalengka Residents Arrested And Become Suspects
MAJALENGKA - The Majalengka Resort Police (Polres), West Java, arrested four residents who together assaulted two motorcycle thieves in their neighborhood, after both were caught red-handed while stealing.
"We arrested four people who were proven to have abused two victims (motorcycle thieves)," said Majalengka Police Chief AKBP Edwin Affandi in Majalengka, as reported by Antara, Thursday, February 10.
Edwin said that the four residents who were named as suspects were proven together in public to commit the crime of beating two motorcycle thieves.
According to him, the actions of the residents with the initials S (41), AI (38), KS (56), and AP (36) were not justified, because they were taking vigilante actions.
Even their actions were recorded and distributed through social media, so that they went viral and became public consumption. Based on the video, Edwin continued, his party arrested four residents who are currently designated as suspects.
"Our action is so that the community does not take justice into their own hands. And we apply Article 170 of the Criminal Code," he said. Edwin said the chronology of the case was that two motorcycle thieves were arrested by the community, then the thieves were tied up and judged by residents.
Even the two thieves who came from Indramayu Regency, suffered severe injuries after being beaten by residents.
"We also caught the thief. This action is so that later residents will not play judges on their own," he said.
