Toddler Dies In Situbondo Sampean Lama River Irrigation Channel, Body Found 2 Km From Slipping Location

SITUBONDO - A toddler with the initials MAZ from Dawuhan Situbondo Village, East Java, was found dead after falling into the Sampean Lama River irrigation canal. The body of the 4-year-old child was found 2 km from the scene.

Situbondo Regency BPBD Pusdalops officer, Puriyono said the incident occurred at around 11.30 WIB.

The incident began when the victim and his friend were playing on the side of the irrigation river. The victim slipped and fell into the river.

"Hearing that his son drowned and was swept away, the victim's parents immediately contacted the authorities," he said, Wednesday, February 9.

After some time, the team arrived at the location. The Situbondo BPBD Pusdalops assisted by members of Tagana, Satpol PP, Irrigation Service, City Police, Koramil and local residents conducted searches along the river.

"After almost 1.5 hours of searching, the victim was found. The victim was found 2 km from the location of the fall and was immediately taken to the Abdoer Rahem Situbondo Hospital for medical treatment," said Puriyono.

During an examination at the hospital, the victim was found to be dead. The family sincerely accepted the death of the victim.

"The victim was brought home by the family for burial," he said.
