Remove Sponsorship For Mason Greenwood, Nike: He's Not Our Athlete Anymore
JAKARTA - Sports apparel company Nike said on Monday it was no longer a sponsor of Mason Greenwood after the Manchester United striker was accused of rape and assault on his girlfriend.
Nike last week said it had suspended cooperation with Greenwood because the sportswear giant was concerned about the case.
But now Nike has taken a firm stance not to continue working with Greenwood.
"Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete," Nike said in a statement.
Greenwood was previously arrested by Greater Manchester Police on January 30 for allegedly sexually assaulting his girlfriend, Harriet Robson.
But the 20-year-old attacker was released on bail on February 2 pending further investigation.
However, Manchester United have suspended Greenwood. The MU academy dropout will not be allowed to play or train with the team until further notice.
