90 Volunteers Ready To Take Red And White Vaccine Clinical Trials

SURABAYA - A total of 90 volunteers aged at least 18 years are ready to take part in the first phase clinical trial of the Red and White Vaccine which was conducted on February 9, 2022 at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Dr. Soetomo Surabaya.

"The initial clinical trial is ready, including the schedule and volunteers. Next, the second and third stages are scheduled later," said Airlangga University Surabaya Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Nasih was quoted by Antara, Monday, February 7.

According to him, the need for volunteers for stages 1 and 2 of the Red and White Vaccine is very large, so that his party must use all their strength.

The Chancellor revealed that during a visit to Unair on Friday (4/2), TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa also offered to help find as many as 5,000 volunteers for Phase 1 and 2 of the Red and White Vaccine.

"We are grateful that the TNI Commander is committed to helping, because it is not easy to find 5,000 volunteers," he said.

"If you do it yourself, you might get 1,000 or 2,000 people, but the 3,000 volunteers will definitely be lacking, because they have not been vaccinated at all. So this is an opportunity," added the Unair Professor.

Nasih explained that the stages of clinical trials are carried out in parallel every two weeks, then the results of the clinical trials will be submitted to the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) to see whether they are safe or not.

"If the results are safe and BPOM permits, then a clinical trial will be carried out for phase three," said the Unair Chancellor.

He is optimistic that the results of the clinical trial of the Red and White Vaccine are safe so that in March 2022, phase three clinical trials can be carried out.

"At least in March we will start the third phase because it is a two-week parallel, then the results are known. I think it can be done next month. Everything really depends on the results in stages 1 and 2, but God willing, it will be good," he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa hopes that the implementation of the first phase of clinical trials of the Red and White Vaccine innovation from Airlangga University Surabaya with the team from Dr. RSUD. Soetomo went well.

"Hopefully it will meet the expected target," said Khofifah.
