Ahead Of Chinese New Year, Mei Hwa Pontianak Cherry Blossom Craftsmen Receive Many Orders

PONTIANAK - Cherry blossom tree craftsmen or Mei Hwa flooded orders ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan.

"Until now, I am still working on orders for Mei Hwa flower trees, which have started to multiply two weeks before the Chinese New Year celebrations," said Asong, one of the craftsmen for the Mei Hwa flower tree in Pontianak, as reported by Antara, Sunday, January 30.

So far, he has made as many as 70 Mei Hwa flower trees to fulfill orders from Chinese citizens who will celebrate Chinese New Year.

"Even the buyers of Mei Hwa flower trees are not only residents of Pontianak City but also Kubu Raya Regency and its surroundings," he said.

Asong added that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, orders for Mei Hwa flower trees were still normal as in previous years.

Asong's handmade Mei Hwa flower trees are sold at prices ranging from IDR 300 thousand to IDR 3 million/Mei Hwa flower tree or depending on the size.

"To complete one Mei Hwa flower tree, we need about two days for a size of 50 centimeters," he said.

Asong added that the Mei Hwa flower tree is made using trunks or trees from the roots of mangroves or mangroves so that they are strong and last for about five years.

The Mei Hwa flower tree is used as an ornament at Chinese Chinese New Year celebrations, and it is believed that the flower tree brings good luck.
