LBH Criticizes Evictions During Anies' Leadership Period, Provincial Government: Not A Human Rights Violation And Look At The Development!

JAKARTA—The Assistant to the Government of DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary, Sigit Wijatmoko, stated that evictions are not the main choice in managing settlements and territories in the capital city. Moreover, the control process carried out by Satpol PP is not an act that violates and injures human rights.

The statement was intended to respond to the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) which stated that during the leadership of Anies Baswedan there had been evictions at 79 points with a total of 277 families and 864 business units.

"What the Satpol PP does is control violations of regional regulations in maintaining city order which are carried out in accordance with statutory provisions. The process is carried out through dialogue between government officials and residents," said Sigit in his statement to the media, Sunday, October 24.

In addition, Sigit emphasized that the enforcement carried out was in accordance with the rules. One example is controlling settlements.

Where, the settlement was put in order because the location used was not suitable. In fact, the existence of settlements in these locations can actually cause disasters.

"Such as settlements that can block waterways, causing more severe flooding," said Sigit.

Sigit also mentioned that the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta, in fact often invites LBH Jakarta to discuss settlement planning plans. This means that in carrying out its role, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has complied with the rules.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also often invites LBH Jakarta to discuss settlement planning plans to accommodate residents' needs for housing," said Sigit.

In fact, Sigit emphasized that during the four years of Governor Anies Baswedan's leadership, three villages had been built and inaugurated. Where, the villages were previously brought under control during the leadership of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.

"(Development) Kampung Susun Kunir, Kampung Susun Cakung Growing Productive, and Kampung Susun Aquarium. This is manifested as the commitment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure that residents get decent housing while improving the quality of residential areas and facilitating DKI Jakarta residents to fulfill a sense of justice in living, "said Sigit.
