JAKARTA – It is reported that hackers (hackers) have stolen from Coinbase Global Inc customer accounts, at least 6,000 coins. This is known from the infringement notification letters sent by the cryptocurrency exchange to affected customers.

The hacking took place between March and May 20 this year, according to a copy of the letter posted on the California Attorney General's website.

The unauthorized third party exploited a flaw in the company's SMS account recovery process to gain access to the account, and transferred funds to a crypto wallet unrelated to Coinbase, the company source said.

“We immediately fixed the flaw and have been working with these customers to regain control of their accounts and replace their lost money,” a Coinbase spokesperson said on Friday, September 1.

To be able to break into the account, the hacker would need to know the email address, password and phone number linked to the affected Coinbase account, and have access to the private email, the company said.

Coinbase says there is no evidence to suggest that the information was obtained from their company. News of the hack was previously reported by technology news portal Bleeping Computer.

This incident proves that crypto transactions are now starting to become insecure. It even endangers its users because of the easy hacking that occurs. Coinbase must now be able to prove that they are able to return stolen coins to genuine customers to ensure that transactions are safe for them.
