Naver Cloud and Nvidia Develop Global AI Factory

JAKARTA - Naver Cloud is partnering with Nvidia to build a global AI factory. This cooperation strengthens South Korea's position in the artificial intelligence infrastructure race, from chips, data centers, to AI models.

Launching a Yonhap report, Tuesday, June 2, Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won presented the plan at the Nvidia Cloud Partners Summit in Taipei, Tuesday. The statement comes ahead of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's visit to Seoul this week.

Huang is scheduled to meet with a number of senior executives of major South Korean companies. Among them are SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, and founder and Chairman of Naver Lee Hae-jin.

Kim said Naver Cloud has full-stack technology capabilities, which means the ability to manage all layers of technology, from AI infrastructure to user-facing services.

"Naver Cloud has full-stack technical capabilities that cover all areas from AI infrastructure to services," Kim said.

According to Kim, this ability makes Naver Cloud suitable for Nvidia's AI factory strategy. The strategy includes energy, chips, infrastructure, applications, and AI models.

AI factories are the new generation of AI infrastructure for training and running large-scale AI models. Simply put, it's like a "factory" that processes data, trains models, and then channels them into business, industry, and public services.

Naver Cloud also plans to use Nvidia's Nemotron 3, an open model family for agent AI. Agent AI is AI that can perform tasks more independently, not just answering commands.

The technology will be used to develop HyperCLOVA X, Naver's large-scale AI model.

Yonhap reported that the two companies are also exploring joint research for LLM or large language models, which are large language models that are the basis of AI services such as chatbots, smart search, and digital assistants.

Kim said the cooperation was also aimed at supporting the development of sovereign AI. This term refers to an AI model that is built according to each country's language, culture, rules, and needs.

This collaboration places Naver Cloud and Nvidia in the development of AI infrastructure that can be used for industrial, public services, and national AI models in various countries.
