Google Indonesia officially held the inauguration of the 2026 Google Student Ambassador program, with the number of selected participants reaching around 2,000 students from various universities in Indonesia.

Google Indonesia's Country Marketing Manager, Muriel M., said this year's program was the most competitive. This is seen from the surge in the number of applicants, which reached 81,800 people, an increase of more than three times compared to more than 12,000 applicants last year.

Not only the number of applicants, GSA this year also experienced an increase in the number of participating universities from around 530 campuses last year, to almost 2,000 campuses in 2026.

"The total number of universities participating here, from 500 universities, now there are almost 2,000 universities. Then all the friends who were selected. Last year we had 800, this year we have 2,000 selected," said Mauriel at the Inauguration of the 2026 Google Student Ambassador on Thursday, April 23.

As part of the program, Google Student Ambassadors will also gain access to various Google AI technologies to support academic and organizational activities on campus. They are expected to play a role as drivers of AI adoption in their respective environments.

"As Google Student Ambassadors, it is very important because you are the leaders of AI adoption in your respective campuses, which ensures that this technology can bring benefits to the surrounding environment," said Mauriel.

Google Student Ambassador Buddy

In addition, Google also introduced program updates this year, including a group-based project scheme to encourage collaboration between participants called Google Student Ambassador Buddy.

This program is expected to produce creative solutions, increase academic productivity, and shape students as role models in the use of AI.

"We will have a new program called Google Student Ambassador Buddy, where there will be projects that can be worked on in groups. So that we can collaborate, share ideas, share, learn with friends, hopefully we can make projects and collaborations more effective," he concluded.
