JAKARTA - Technology giant Apple has reaffirmed its focus on security by enabling Stolen Device Protection by default for enterprise devices through the iOS 26.4.1 and iPadOS 26.4.1 updates.
This step applies to enterprise devices that upgrade from previous versions, following a similar policy that was first applied to non-enterprise devices in iOS 26.4. In other words, now all lines—both individual and corporate users—are subject to automatic "shield mode".
The Stolen Device Protection feature is designed to provide an additional layer of security when the device is outside of a location that is considered safe, such as a home or office. In these conditions, access to sensitive data such as stored passwords or account settings will require biometric authentication via Face ID or Touch ID, without the fallback option using a passcode.
Not only that, Apple also implements a "security delay" mechanism - a kind of time delay of about an hour for crucial changes such as changing the account password. After the delay, users must perform biometric verification again. The strategy is simple but effective: slow down the perpetrators if the device falls into the wrong hands.
This update also comes amid increased security threats. Apple previously patched a number of serious vulnerabilities, including exploits named Coruna and DarkSword that had disrupted the system. In addition, bug fixes to CloudKit are also included to restore iCloud data synchronization that had been problematic.
For the enterprise segment, this policy has a big implication. Companies now get additional protection without having to configure manually, reducing the risk of data leaks due to device theft. On the other hand, some users may feel that the authentication process is more "complicated".
