JAKARTA - Valve Corporation, the parent company of the world's largest game distribution platform, Steam, admitted that there was a miscommunication with the Ministry of Communication and Digital regarding the Indonesia Rating Game System (IGRS) in some of its games.

In its official statement, Valve admitted that it had been in communication for more than two years with Komdigi and the agency overseeing IGRS to build an age rating display system for Steam customers in Indonesia.

However, due to errors and miscommunication between the two parties, it caused the age rating in some games on its platform to be inaccurate.

"A technical error and miscommunication resulted in inaccurate and incomplete ratings being displayed temporarily on Steam between April 2 and April 5," the company wrote on its official website.

To that end, Valve has removed game ratings that originated from IGRS, and will take further steps to generate more accurate age ratings in the future.

"We have removed it to minimize potential confusion. There are still some steps to be taken before we are ready to fully produce and display IGRS-approved age ratings to customers in Indonesia," he added.

Basically, Valve confirmed, this system aims to provide information to customers about the content and minimum age group targeted for each game.

For this mistake, the company also apologized to the public. "We apologize for the confusion that may have been caused by this mistake," it concluded.

Meanwhile, the Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at Kemkomdigi, Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, stated that his party was conducting internal and external investigations to find out the problem.

"Again, we have also conducted investigations both internally and externally with the game industry players to identify the loopholes. In the future, we will also involve the game industry players for this investigation," said Sonny on Tuesday, April 7.

However, Komdigi is committed to continuing to evaluate and improve in the future, for the protection of consumers related to digital products sold and distributed in Indonesia.
