JAKARTA - The government has signed a Joint Decree (SKB) of Seven Ministers on Guidelines for the Use and Learning of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Formal, Nonformal, and Informal Education Channels.

This SKB aims to ensure that the use of AI technology in the world of education - from early childhood education to universities - can provide benefits for the learning process while protecting children from various risks in the digital space.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Pratikno, said this arrangement was needed so that the use of technology in education would continue to pay attention to the readiness and development of children.

According to him, the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence for children must be done wisely, provide positive benefits and reduce the risks.

"The criteria for the age and readiness of children are very important in the regulation," Pratikno said in his statement quoted on Thursday, March 12.

He explained that the younger the child's age, the more controlled the use of technology, both in terms of duration and the type of content that can be used in the learning process.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that this policy is important because Indonesia has a very large number of internet users, including among children.

"Indonesia has a very large number of children who use the internet. Therefore, we must ensure that they are not only targets or markets for the technology industry, but are able to utilize technology according to their readiness," said Meutya.

According to him, this arrangement is a government step so that the development of digital technology and artificial intelligence can really benefit education.

The government hopes that this policy will help schools, teachers, and families make appropriate use of digital technology so that Indonesian children can learn technology early without neglecting their cognitive and character development.

The SKB was signed by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti, Minister of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection Arifah Choiri Fauzi, Minister of Population and Family Development Wihaji, and Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar.
