JAKARTA - Indonesia is the largest market for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Oxford Insight data reveals that Indonesia's readiness for AI use reaches 65.85 percent, especially in the fields of government and data.

However, behind the growth of the digital ecosystem and the increasingly massive implementation of AI, this is also accompanied by a significant increase in cybercrime threats.

Kaspersky in its annual security report (KSN) revealed that as many as 14,909,665 web-based attacks were detected and successfully blocked in Indonesia last year, equivalent to as many as 40,848 online cyber attack attempts per day.

In general, more than 1 in every 4 (22.4 percent) users face online threats during the period from January to December 2025. This also places Indonesia in 84th place in the world in terms of dangers related to surfing the web.

Attacks through the browser are the main method of spreading malicious programs. The exploitation of vulnerabilities in the browser and its plugins (drive-by downloads) and social engineering methods are most often used by cybercriminals to penetrate systems.

The five countries with the highest percentage of users affected by web-based threats are Belarus (37.6 percent), Andorra (37.6 percent), Tajikistan (34.5 percent), Ukraine (34.5 percent), and Greece (33.9 percent).

General Manager for ASEAN and AEC at Kaspersky, Simon Tung said that IT teams must have a security operations team that is capable of monitoring and addressing cyber threats.

In addition, clear policies and regulations on data protection also need to be implemented to protect user rights. These factors, according to him, can create a solid security defense.

Meanwhile, Tung also mentioned that in 2026 the trend of attacks is expected to be more sophisticated with AI as the common thread of various emerging risks.

According to him, AI not only helps defenders detect anomalies faster, but is also used by attackers to map markets, investigate infrastructure, and generate more convincing malicious content.

"Therefore, we always emphasize to increase high alertness and also build the best defense by using reliable security solutions," added Tung.
