JAKARTA - WhatsApp is seen testing a new feature that is very useful for new group members. This new feature allows old group members to share message history in the chat room to new users who have just joined.

This feature is designed to help new users understand the context being discussed before he joins. With this feature, users no longer need to scroll the screen and take screenshots just to explain the context of the previous conversation.

This feature was initially available for beta testers on Android devices with version 2.26.1.28. Now, WhatsApp is seen expanding its feature testing to iOS devices in version 26.2.10.73. Old users can send up to the last 100 messages in a group.

WhatsApp also applies a time limit in this feature. Users can only share conversations that have been carried out in the last 14 days. From there, old users are forced to take screenshots because message sharing can no longer be done.

Users can enable this option when adding a new contact through the group chat information screen. Shared messages will be marked with a special color so that new members can distinguish them from the current conversation. Old members will also receive notifications about who shared the message history.

WhatsApp continues to pay attention to security in this feature. All messages shared will be protected by end-to-end encryption. The process of sending old message history using an encryption key directly from the user's device that adds a new member.

This feature is not automatically activated and requires manual approval from the admin or the inviting member. WhatsApp will also display a confirmation warning up to three times before the message sharing process is actually carried out.
