JAKARTA - Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expanding its partnership with Aumovio, a German automotive hardware supplier. This cooperation, to support the development and commercialization of autonomous vehicles based on artificial intelligence. This collaboration will start with the plan to launch the company's driverless truck Aurora autonomous transport on a large scale starting in 2027.
In an expansion of a long-standing partnership, AWS was designated as Aumovio's primary cloud computing service provider for the development of autonomous driving technology supported by AI systems. This new technology will be used for the first time in the commercial implementation of the Aurora autonomous truck. This is a move that was positively received by the market where Aurora shares jumped more than 8 percent.
The global automotive industry has poured billions of dollars into developing AI systems to realize driverless vehicles, although this technology still faces complex technical challenges.
However, the collaboration between AWS and Aumovio reflects an important shift, from the research phase to commercial implementation, especially in the logistics and freight sector. Aurora itself has been running limited driverless truck operations in the United States.
"The biggest acceleration in this industry comes from the use of AI engineering, because the technology allows development and validation to be carried out with much fewer resources," said Ozgur Tohumcu, General Manager of Automotive and Manufacturing AWS, quoted by VOI from Reuters. This statement confirms that AI is now not just an additional feature, but the main engine of innovation acceleration.
Through AWS cloud infrastructure, Aumovio engineers can analyze huge volumes of driving data using generative AI and agent AI technologies. This system helps identify rare or extreme situations, such as debris on the road or pedestrians on the vehicle lane, while speeding up the training and validation process of autonomous systems.

"The biggest challenge in validating Level 4 systems is proving that the system behaves correctly in situations that are very rare and difficult to find in the real world," said Jeremy McClain, Head of System and Software unit of autonomous mobility Aumovio. Without the help of AI, finding edge cases in massive data sets is almost impossible to do efficiently.
Aumovio itself is a company that was spun off from German tire manufacturer Continental last year. The company supplies the main hardware platform for Aurora's autonomous driving system, including a backup or fallback system designed to safely stop the truck if the main autonomous driving system fails.
This move by AWS and Aumovio confirms the direction of the autonomous vehicle industry: from futuristic promises to business realities. In short, the future of driverless trucks is no longer just a technology demo, but is starting to be counted in production schedules and commercial targets.
