Google Showcases Latest Version of Gemini for TV at CES 2026

Google is showing off a Gemini update that will be coming to Google TV. The latest innovation for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot was introduced at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

In the latest version of Gemini for smart TVs, users can search for content with very casual natural language. Users can ask for movie recommendations for audiences with two different tastes or ask for movie titles through descriptions of plot pieces.

In addition to providing entertainment assistance, Gemini can also be used to control the television through voice commands. Users only need to say 'the screen is too dim' or 'the dialogue is unclear' and Gemini will perform the command automatically.

Google Photos integration is also getting a major update in the future. With the AI technology that Google has developed, users can turn their photo collection into a cinematic slide show to watch alone or with family.

Google also provides educational support through a more interactive summary feature. Users can ask in-depth questions about a topic and Gemini will provide a complete explanation accompanied by text, images or video context.

"We are making TV more helpful by turning it into an active assistant for learning, creativity, and everyday watching," said Shalini Govil-Pai, Vice President of Google TV, quoted from TechCrunch on Tuesday, January 6.

All of these features are planned to be launched exclusively on high-end TCL televisions before being widely released to Google TV devices. To access the latest version of Gemini, users only need to have a stable internet connection and an active Google account.

In addition, the device used must run the Android TV OS 14 operating system or higher. For language availability and regional support, it will be launched gradually in the coming months.
