MediaTek Dimensity 7100 Debuts as a Power-Saving Mid-Range Chipset

JAKARTA - MediaTek has launched the Dimensity 7100, a new mid-range chipset built with a mature 6nm process to balance performance and efficiency. With an octa-core CPU, Mali-G610 GPU, as well as support for modern connectivity and cameras, this chipset is aimed at affordable smartphones that will be launched in 2026.

MediaTek's latest Dimensity 9000 chipset series has recently received a lot of attention. After all, this company was once considered a "budget" version of Qualcomm, but with the 9000 series, MediaTek proved that they are capable of competing at a high level. However, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a flagship, don't worry, MediaTek still supports you with its latest Dimensity 7100 chipset.

First of all, it's worth noting that unlike the Dimensity 9000 series, MediaTek's Dimensity 7100 is not made with a 3nm process. Instead, it uses an older 6nm process. But this is not a bad thing. Although many companies are chasing 2nm and 3nm chips, there is still room for older processes.

For example, not all devices require the most cutting-edge technology. In addition, the 6nm process is already established, so it is more reliable to produce and cheaper. This allows MediaTek to position the chipset for mid-range devices aimed at consumers with smaller budgets.

According to the company, the Dimensity 7100 has an 8-core CPU configuration. This includes four Cortex-A78 performance cores with a clock of up to 2.4GHz. Then, there are four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores with a clock of 2.0GHz. This configuration allows the chip to switch between performance and efficiency depending on the task being run.

For graphics, users can look forward to the Arm Mali-G610 GPU, which is claimed to be up to 8% faster than its predecessor.

Designed for Efficiency

Of course, for budget and mid-range devices, performance is not the main factor. This is why MediaTek designed this chipset with a greater emphasis on efficiency. The company claims that this chipset is 5% more efficient when using applications, and up to 16% more efficient for multimedia playback. If you often go online to watch videos, you can also enjoy modem efficiency of up to 23%.

The chipset itself supports LPDDR5 RAM with speeds up to 5,500Mbps. It also supports UFS 3.1 storage, WiFi 6, and Bluetooth 5.4. In addition, this chipset supports camera sensors up to 200MP, with HDR imaging, multi-frame noise reduction, and hardware-accelerated face detection.

Currently, there is no information about which phones will use the Dimensity 7100. However, 2026 is already in sight, so we should start seeing these devices appear in the near future.
