Google Delays Plans to Remove Google Assistant Until 2026

Google initially targeted the elimination of Google Assistant by the end of 2025 on most mobile devices. However, this plan was canceled by the company itself.

In its latest statement, Google said it would extend the operation of Google Assistant until 2026. This means that users still have the option to use the assistant or the Gemini Artificial Intelligence (AI) model.

This delay was carried out to ensure the transition process from Google Assistant to Gemini runs smoothly without technical interruptions. Gemini community managers also explained that this change will improve the user experience on mobile devices.

Google is committed to improving the system's capabilities before replacing their old assistant. Until now, the Google Assistant app is still available and can be downloaded via the Google Play Store and App Store.

Although it can still be downloaded, the ability of the two assistants feels very far away. The reason is that Google last received a feature update in July last year. Meanwhile, Gemini has been upgraded with the new Gemini 3 model recently.

Google promises to share more details about the transition phase of its assistant in the next few months. This transition does not seem to only occur on Android-based phones, but also on Google's smart home devices.
