Minister of Communication and Information Minta Opsel to be on Alert to Face Potential Heavy Rain at the End of the Year

JAKARTA - Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid asked mobile operators to increase the readiness of telecommunications networks towards the end of the year, in line with the warning of the potential high rainfall from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Meutya said the directive was in line with the emphasis of President Prabowo Subianto who reminded all levels to be aware of the impact of extreme weather, especially on vital public services such as telecommunications.

"Including what the President conveyed that he reminded the warning from BMKG regarding the possibility of high rainfall," said Meutya in the Implementation of the Joint Apel with the Post-Alert Post for Quality of Telecommunications Services for Christmas 2025 and New Year on Friday, December 19.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party emphasized that the opsel should not only ensure the posts to maintain its connectivity, but also its power supply in the form of generators and batteries in mitigating the possibility of high rainfall at the end of the year.

"We also ensure that mobile operators not only maintain their post-post, but also provide power supply in the form of generators and batteries," he explained.

According to Meutya, this mitigation step is important to anticipate network disruptions due to flooding, power outages, or other extreme weather that often increases.

Previously, BMKG Region II warned of the potential for extreme weather in Banten Province in the period 18-25 December due to the emergence of the 93S cyclone seed that was observed in the Indian Ocean to the southwest of East Java.

Head of the Regional Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) II, Hartanto, said the cyclone had a maximum wind speed of 35 knots or about 65 kilometers per hour with a minimum pressure of 1,000 hektopascal.

"This tropical cyclone potential in the next 24 hours to develop into a tropical cyclone with a moderate to high category. This condition can increase rainfall and strong winds in the Banten Province area," said Hartanto.
