Google has removed dozens of videos with Disney characters created with its Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. This was done after Google received a stern warning from Disney.
In the warning letter, Disney mentioned various YouTube links that included its fictional characters. The links, reported by Variety, are known to include iconic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Deadpool.
There are also characters from Star Wars and The Simpsons. Disney asked for the links to be removed. Most of the videos that were removed were made using Veo, an AI video creation tool developed by Google.
Previously, the links were still accessible on Thursday, December 11, but now the links will redirect visitors to a warning message. The message reads, "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Disney."
The warning comes shortly after Disney announced a major licensing deal with OpenAI. Disney agreed to license 200 of its characters that allow Sora to create short AI clips with Disney assets.
This step shows Disney's efforts in setting limits on the use of AI. The company is trying to protect its characters from unauthorized use of AI through partnerships with AI creators.
In a warning letter sent to Google, Disney also included a list of characters that appear on YouTube and are created with AI. The characters that were asked to be removed include characters from the films Frozen, Moana, Toy Story, Iron Man, Lilo and Stitch, and Winnie the Pooh.
