JAKARTA - Anthropic announced that its Claude AI platform is officially available on Slack with two new usage options that allow users to work more efficiently without having to switch between applications.
In its announcement, the company said that users can now add Claude directly to the Slack workspace, or connect Slack to the Claude application so that the AI can search for and pull context from Slack messages during the conversation.
"Get Claude's help directly in Slack conversations, or ask Claude to search your Slack workspace when you need context for a deeper research project," Anthropic wrote on its official website.
Through this integration, Claude can now search for public and private channels that users can access to provide more accurate answers and recommendations. When helping in a public thread, Claude first drafts a reply privately so that users can review and edit it.
There are three ways to interact with Claude in Slack: through direct messages, the AI assistant panel in the Slack header, or by mentioning @Claude in a thread so that the AI can compose a reply based on the context of the conversation.
When Slack is connected to the Claude app, the AI capabilities are further expanded. Claude can search across channel conversations, direct messages, to shared files to compile a meeting briefing, summarize project progress, to help the onboarding process of new team members.
Anthropic calls this integration a big step towards AI-based work automation. "Every company is moving towards an agent enterprise, where AI agents work side by side with humans," said Rob Seaman, Slack's Chief Product Officer at Salesforce.
This integration maintains Slack and Claude's security standards. AI can only access channels that users have permission to, while workspace administrators retain full control over app approvals and privacy settings.
