JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, emphasized the importance of an in-depth understanding of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the editorial work process.
Although AI can automate basic tasks such as syntax corrections, language translations, transcription of interviews, to analysis of initial sentiment.
According to him, this facility allows journalists to focus on core activities such as in-depth investigations, primary source verification, and the preparation of weighted narratives.
However, he reminded that the sophistication of generative AI also raises new concerns, especially regarding the potential loss of human authenticity and intellectual dignity in the creation process.
Nezar emphasized the importance for editors in maintaining the accuracy of journalistic products in the midst of the fast-moving flow of information.
He added that one of the biggest concerns is the potential misuse of AI for misinformation, disinformation, and deepfake-based fraud.
Therefore, collaboration between institutions and increasing public literacy is needed to strengthen national information resilience.
Responding to these challenges, Komdigi has completed two key instruments, namely the National AI Roadmap and the AI Ethics guide, which is in the process of ratifying it into Presidential Regulation (Perpres).
"We are preparing these two documents to become Presidential Regulations. Currently being discussed at the Ministry of Law," said Nezar in his official broadcast quoted Friday, November 28.

At the industrial level, the Press Council and media companies have also published internal guidelines to ensure the use of AI responsibly in the editorial space.
The Press Council itself has issued artificial intelligence guidelines for the media. So, I think a number of regulations, both external and internal, can be used as a reference for the time being," said Nezar.
