Malaysia And The Philippines Join The Artemis Agreement, Support NASA's Exploration Project

JAKARTA In October 2025, while NASA was limiting its routine communication to the public as the US government shut down, the agency welcomed three new countries joining the Artemis Agreement.

There are two countries from Asia that are known to join, namely Malaysia and the Philippines. Meanwhile, other countries are from Europe, namely Hungary. The joining of these three countries also marks the fiveth anniversary of the Artemis Agreement initiated by NASA.

The Artemis Agreement is a project run to guide its exploration in space. The targets of this project are exploration on the Moon and Mars. The blueprint for this space cooperation is led by the United States (US).

With the addition of these three countries, the number of countries involved in the Artemis Agreement now reaches 59. This surge in participants strengthens global commitment to space exploration. This agreement also shows that there are more countries interested in space.

"NASA welcomes the latest signing, whose participation strengthens its global commitment to responsible exploration," said NASA Acting Administrator Sean Total, quoted from NASA's official website on Monday, November 24.

Malaysia and the Philippines signed the agreement when US President Donald Trump visited Kuala Lumpur to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) annual summit. Meanwhile, Hungary signed the Artemis Agreement on October 22, 2025.

The signing of the Hungarian agreement was carried out in Washington ahead of an official meeting between President Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb Badminton. The signing follows the mission of Hungarian to Orbit (HUNOR) astronaut who was recently launched into space.
