JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated that Indonesia is the second country in the world after Australia to implement regulation on postponing child access to digital platforms.
Through Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance for the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP TUNAS), the government seeks to protect minors from negative content that is spread online.
He emphasized that the presence of PP TUNAS is a tangible form of the state's presence in protecting Indonesian children, although according to him, there was a rejection from several digital platforms.
In addition to limiting the age of using social media, PP TUNAS also regulates obligations and sanctions for digital platforms to apply age verification to users.
Meutya said that currently the government is preparing a system to impose strict sanctions on platforms that violate the rules.
"Currently we still have time to improve the system so that later we will really apply sanctions. This sanction is imposed on the platform, not on mothers, not on children," said Meutya in Medan, launching Komdigi's official broadcast on Monday, November 10.
Komdigi also continues to work with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) to provide education to parents and children about how to protect themselves and their families in the digital space.
