Apple Original Films Prepare Thriller Tense The Flick: Survive At 30,000 Feet

JAKARTA - Apple Original Films is again expanding its wings in the cinema world with a new project entitled The Flick, an air traffic-themed thriller that will make the audience's heart beat faster.

This film is adapted from an unpublished short story by Matt Hickey and follows the story of Sonny Braden, an air traffic controller who is already on the verge of exhaustion. In the midst of his almost-collapsed mental condition, he received an emergency call from a plane his pilot fainted, and the only person who could control the plane was a pregnant female passenger.

With the fuel running low and the storm getting closer, Braden should accompany the passenger to make the landing impossible, while fighting the guilt and fatigue that overshadows him. The story is described as a high-intensity thriller about control, connection, and survival between chaos every second means.

The film was produced by Peter Chernin and David Ready under the banners of Chernin Entertainment and The North Road Company, being one of the first projects in their new partnership with Apple TV. Matt Hickey also went directly as a producer, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Chernin Entertainment memang tengah menjadi mitra utama Apple dalam produksi film dan serial panjang. Sebelumnya, mereka bekerja sama dalam drama sejarah Chief of War yang dibintangi Jason Momoa, serta serial See yang juga menampilkan aktor yang sama. Baru-baru ini, Chernin juga mengamankan proyek adaptasi Last Flight Out, novel graphic dari Dark Horse Comics karya Marc Guggenheim.

Interestingly, Matt Hickey was previously known through Apple's original podcast Easy Money: The Charles Ponzi Story, which explores the origins of one of the most legendary financial schemes in history. With The Flick, Hickey marked the transition of his career from audio to the big screen in line with Apple's increasingly aggressive strategy of building cross-medical connections between his film division, TV, and podcasts.

Film scripts don't yet have an official screenplay author yet, but the project was reportedly acquired by Apple before the close of the US administration, which has recently highlighted extreme pressure in the world of air traffic control.
