JAKARTA - Some Android Auto users report that Google Maps is now back showing maps with centralized positions. However, unlike before, this time the new look doesn't cover up the important part of the map, making it a more positive welcome change for users.
As a reminder, earlier this year Google had launched an update for the Maps app on Android Auto which shifted the position of the map from the right to the center of the screen. Unfortunately, the change actually caused a new problem the destination menu covered most of the travel routes, making the display uncomfortable for the driver. Shortly thereafter, Google decided to cancel the update and return the map to the right side.

Now, based on reports from users on Reddit, Google is again testing the appearance of a centralized map. The difference is, this time there is no destination menu box blocking the view towards the route. Users who reported these findings said that the centralized view was still working when navigation started, although sometimes it disappeared on its own.
However, the display can be returned manually by pressing the three-panel button, then tapping the Maps screen. Users also share a short video showing this change on Reddit.
Conceptually, a centralized map does look more ideal because it provides a balanced display of the route on the screen. The previous problem was only the user interface that interfered with the view. If this time Google manages to overcome these obstacles, this change may be an update that many Android Auto users will like in the future.
