JAKARTA - Google has officially expanded the reach of Mixboards, an artificial intelligence-based (AI) experimental tool to create an idea board (mod board), to more than 180 countries around the world. This move marks a major expansion of Google Labs projects that were previously only available to limited users.

The mixboard was first introduced in September 2025 as an image-based and text-based digital canvas that allows users to upload photos, add text, and take advantage of Google's AI model including Nano Banana to create ideas, generate visuals, or perfect creative concepts.

With this global launch, Mixboard also got two major upgrades. First, the size of the board is now four times larger, giving wider room for sketching, reference images, and records before asking for AI assistance to remix or idea development. Second, expansion to hundreds of countries makes this tool no longer a small experimental project, but is getting closer to the public release version.

Google mentions that users around the world have used the Mixboard for various things, from planning parties, creating DIY projects, to doing storyboarding and brainstorming designs.

Even so, Mixboard is still at the Google Labs stage, meaning it has not been intended as a full professional tool. Its features and stability can change at any time, and its experience tends to be experimental. However, for content creators, students, and hobbyists who want to experiment with AI-based visual ideas, Mixboard offers a new, fun way to think creatively visually.

Users who want to try can visit labs.google.com (in supported countries), log into their Google account, then create a new board. After that, they can upload images, add text, use the + button to create visuals with Gemini help, then rearrange the results before saving or sharing.

Google also emphasizes that uploaded data and content will not be used to train AI models unless users choose to allow them. All content remains attached to a personal account, unless it is shared manually.

In the end, the Mixboard hasn't been designed to replace professional design software, but its presence shows Google's new direction in supporting the creativity process from an early stage. Not only helps users find ideas, but also forms the idea directly through AI.
