JAKARTA OpenAI submitted an unusual request to Adam Raine's family, a teenager suspected of committing suicide after talking regularly with ChatGPT.

Launching from the Financial Times report, OpenAI requested a complete list of people present at the Raine commemoration ceremony. That way, all friends and relatives attending the commemoration ceremony will likely be contacted.

This request arose amid a lawsuit filed by the Raine family against OpenAI. According to the Raine family, ChatGPT contributed to Raine's decision so that their son ended his life.

In the leaked document, OpenAI also appears to be asking for 'all documents related to the commemoration ceremony or event in honor of Raine'. This includes videos or photos taken, as well as the respect given.

Lawyers representing the Raine family responded strongly to the request. OpenAI's actions are described as "deliberate harassment".

This request also emerged after the Raine family renewed their lawsuit on October 22, 2025. The revised lawsuit accused OpenAI of accelerating the release of the GPT-4o model in May 2024 by reducing security tests due to market competition pressures.

The lawsuit also claims OpenAI weakened suicide protection in February 2025 by removing suicide prevention from 'forbidden content'. The reason is, Adam's daily chat soared to 300 after the changes were made.

Responding to the amended lawsuit, OpenAI stated that youth welfare is still a top priority. This can be seen from the various responses that appear when users try to discuss sensitive topics such as suicide.

"We have implemented current protective measures, such as (directing users to) a crisis hotline, diverting sensitive conversations to safer models, pushing pauses during long sessions, and we continue to strengthen them," OpenAI said.
