JAKARTA - Google is updating the Google Fi service with a series of new artificial intelligence (AI)-based features, including smart voice filters to improve call clarity, support for RCS messages through the web, as well as a summary of automated bills described by AI.

The flagship feature in this update is AI-powered noise filters, which automatically filter background sounds such as wind, construction, or traffic to make conversations sound clearer. According to Google, this technology will be active on most calls, including when users talk to old devices or home phones.

This feature uses Google AI to automatically filter annoying noise and clarify voice on both sides of the call to make it sound more natural, the company said in a statement. Users can also disable this feature at any time via call settings.

Google says this technology will begin rolling out in the coming weeks. In the demonstration released, the difference between ordinary calls and those filtered by AI sounds quite significant.

In addition to the increase in calls, Google Fi now also supports RCS web messaging, allowing users to send and receive RCS messages directly from computers without having to continue to view cell phones. This feature is designed for those who often work in front of the screen and want to keep their focus without interruptions on cell phone notifications.

Google is also expanding the availability of Wi-Fi Auto Connect Plus, a feature that automatically connects devices to a safe and high-quality' Wi-Fi network. With this, users no longer need to bother looking for a Wi-Fi connection or being trapped on an unstable public network.

Lastly, this update brings the AI billing summaries feature, which helps users understand the details of bill fees more easily. AI will explain the cost components automatically, including the use of data and additional services.

With this move, Google seems to want to show that AI is not just a matter of chatbots or generative images. In the case of Google Fi, artificial intelligence is used for more practical things: making calls clearer, connections smarter, and account management easier.
