Apple Ready To Launch M5 MacBook Pro, There Is A Reform Update, But Without A New Design

JAKARTA - An Apple executive has confirmed that the MacBook Pro M5 will launch soon, likely on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 US time. The tech world has been waiting for Apple's product launch this October, which is expected to include the latest MacBook Pro, the iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro updates.

Although Apple usually doesn't launch new products in the second week of October, a statement from one of its executives gave a strong signal that the MacBook Pro M5 will be coming soon. After months of rumors and speculation, this device is finally ready to be launched although it won't bring major changes to the design.

M5 Chip Update

The most significant change in this new model is of course the use of the Apple Silicon M5 chip. Currently, the MacBook Pro line is still using the M4 chip, so an upgrade to the M5 is a natural step.

Interestingly, a post on social media by Greg Joswiak (known as 'Joz') used the word 'Mm air', which many interpreted as a subtle clue towards the M5 chip.

However, the M5 Pro and M5 Max variants are expected to arrive in early 2026. A number of leaks, including model numbers from the FCC document and supply of the M4 MacBook Pro which are running low, further strengthen the indication that the launch of the basic version of the M5 is indeed imminent.

In fact, macOS Tahoe also mentioned the schedule for the release of the MacBook Pro with basic M5 chips by 2025.

M5 Performance

Based on leaked iPad Pro tests using the M5 chip, single-core performance increased 12.3% compared to the M4, while multi-cores rose 15%.

Calculations from AppleInsider predict the MacBook Air M5 will have a performance improvement of about 12% for single-cores and 15% for multi-cores compared to previous generations.

With this increase, M5's multi-core performance is even claimed to surpass MacBook Pro M3 Pro and Mac Studio M2 Max.

The MacBook Pro, which has an active cooling system, is likely to maintain its high performance longer than the MacBook Air or iPad Pro which has thermal limitations.

Without M5 Pro And M5 Max

Different from last year's MacBook Pro M4 launch which immediately featured M4 Pro and M4 Max, this time Apple seems to be only going to introduce the basic version of the M5 first.

This follows Apple's previous chip launch pattern, where Pro and Max variants usually come months after the basic version. Therefore, the MacBook Pro M5 Pro and M5 Max models are expected to only appear in early 2026.

Most likely, this update only includes a 14-inch model, as the 16-inch variant usually comes with Pro and Max chips.

Only Specification Update

Apart from chip upgrades, no other major changes are expected in this 2025 MacBook Pro. There will be no new design, large additional features, or significant screen changes.

Apple tends to make major updates every few years, while annual updates focus more on increasing specifications (spec bump) such as processors and energy efficiency.

However, Apple is said to be preparing a major overhaul for 2026, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the MacBook Pro. One of the major innovations awaited is the OLED screen and Apple's own possible modem integration for cellular connectivity.

For now, users can look forward to improving performance from the MacBook Pro M5, without having to expect much on major design changes until at least next year.
