JAKARTA Sora, the latest short video application from OpenAI, is busy being used. Sora's clip is widely circulated on social media, but her ability is being haunted by copyright problems.
Sora's popularity is driven by the ability to make videos with only orders or text prompts, similar to Gemini. This application powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) can create a variety of animations, including popular animated characters.
A number of experts consider that Sora's video results have violated copyright so that the platform may face future demands. The reason is, the characters produced in Sora's video are copyrighted characters.
"Many videos people make about these cartoon characters will violate copyright," said Professor Mark Lemley of Stanford University, citing CNBC on Monday, October 6. "OpenAI opens up to many copyright lawsuits by doing this."
So far, there are many characters seen in Sora's video. Starting from the character SummerBob SquarePantas to Pokemon. In one of the videos circulating, the CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman is seen standing on a field.
Altman was seen with several Pokemon characters in the video. Responding to the video, Altman said, "I hope Nintento (the Pokemon maker) doesn't sue us."

Responding to various animations that emerged from Sora's video, OpenAI finally took action. The Head of the Shetty Varun Media Partnership stated that his party would cooperate with copyright holders by blocking the character from Sora.
This blocking is done if the animation owner submits a request. In addition, OpenAI is also willing to respond to requests from copyright owners to remove content deemed infringement.
However, Law Expert Jason Bloom stated that the rules are unusual. Copyright laws require written permission to use the work of others and OpenAI should submit the request first.
"You can't just post an announcement to the public saying that we're going to use someone else's work unless you ban it," Bloom explained.
In addition to character copyright, OpenAI has also taken steps to address other potential problems. Users will not now be able to create videos of public figures without written permission.
