GoTo's Name Chosen As Gojek And Tokopedia's New Entity

JAKARTA - Gojek and Tokopedia have just announced a merger with the new entity GoTo. The abbreviation turns out to have a fairly unique meaning of both companies.

Through a short video of IGTV on his personal Instagram page, Tokopedia co-founder and CEO William Tanuwijaya (@liamtanu) explained that the name GoTo comes from the abbreviation Gojek and Tokopedia. In addition, GoTo can also be interpreted as the word gotong-royong.

"Today is a very historic day in the world of technology. Two of the largest technology companies in Indonesia have officially united under the same umbrella named GoTo," William wrote.

"GoTo comes from the abbreviation Gojek and Tokopedia, also derived from the word gotong-royong, which is the spirit behind this unity," he added.

Gojek and Tokopedia officially merged with the new name GoTo. This entity will be the largest ecosystem in Indonesia in providing a variety of services and solutions for its users.

Andre Soelistyo of Gojek was tapped to lead GoTo as CEO of the Group, with Patrick Cao of Tokopedia as President of GoTo. Later, Kevin Aluwi continued to serve as CEO of Gojek and William Tanuwijaya will remain as CEO of Tokopedia.

"The presence of GoTo Group will also allow us to further encourage financial inclusion in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. This is the next step of gojek and Tokopedia's incredible journey," said GoTo CEO Andre Soelistyo.
