Qualcomm: 6G Phone May Come In 2028, Here's What You Need To Know

Jakarta Qualcomm confirmed that sixth-generation or 6G cellular technology will soon be present in the world. Pre-commercial devices supporting 6G are expected to launch as early as 2028.

Although 5G still feels new, 6G will deliver incredible speeds using terahertz spectrum. This technology is designed to support new device waves, such as smart rings, glasses, and various AI-powered wearables.

In the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon explained how 6G will drive AI Agent progress and change the way we interact with technology.

Amon said that the 6G pre-commercial device is expected to be available starting in 2028. This time lag, about 12 years after the launch of the first 5G device, shows that the mobile technology development cycle is now becoming more mature.

Why Is 6G So Important?

Although 5G already offers impressive speed and bandwidth, 6G will help with the next evolution of mobile technology. Amon stated that although smartphones will not disappear, the way we use them will change.

As Qualcomm once said in 2021, AI is a new UI (user interface). 6G will be critical in processing sensor data for new devices, such as smart rings, smartwatches, and smart glasses. This data is needed to support AI Agents, which Qualcomm also demonstrated at the event.

So, be prepared to welcome 6G, because this technology comes sooner than you might think. While 5G operates on gigahertz spectrum, 6G will reportedly use terahertz spectrum which will make a big difference in speed and bandwidth.
