Honor Magic V5 Is Thiner Than The Galaxy Z Fold 7, But Only On The Ivory White Variant

JAKARTA Honor officially launched Magic V5, its newest flagship foldable phone in the UK and Europe. This device stole attention thanks to the thickness of just 8.8mm, which makes it slightly thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, there is an important note: this thinness only applies to the Color Ivory White variant.

Honor explained that this design advantage was achieved thanks to the use of a new material called aerospace-grade fiber tether. This material is a special fiber that is stronger than drag steel, but much thinner with a thickness of only 0.014mm. With this technology, Magic V5 can look slim and sturdy, even stronger than the previous generation.

Although it is called a thintered foldable phone, in fact not all variants of Magic V5 come with a thickness of 8.8mm. For other colors, such as Reddish Brown and Dawn Gold, the device is even thicker, namely 9mm, so it is bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

In an official statement to the media, Honor said this difference was caused by different materials used in the back cover. Manufacturing process factors and measurement methods can also affect thickness data.

Design More Ramping, Price Stays The Same

Despite differences in thickness, Honor emphasized that all variants of Magic V5 are sold at the same price, namely 1,999 euros or around Rp. 36.5 million. This difference in dimension does look trivial, but it is quite interesting because it shows how one smartphone model can have different physical specifications depending on the color variant.

In design, Honor also makes an optical illusion for the device to feel thinner in hand. Although Dawn Gold's version is thicker, the back panel arch forward makes it look slimmer when compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 box design which is considered like a brick.

The race for folding phones is now increasingly focused on thinness and comfort. If two years ago the foldable was still considered thick and heavy, now devices such as Magic V5 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 are close to a shape that is barely visible from the side.

However, not all manufacturers choose this path. Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, for example, sacrificed a thin profile to bring Qi2 wireless charging support.

For consumers, the most important thing is to know the details before buying. If you really want to have a thin folding phone, make sure to choose the Honor Magic V5 variant Ivory White the only model with a thickness of 8.8mm, while the other variant is slightly thicker.
