Menkomdigi Please Close TikTok Live Features Not Lasting Long

JAKARTA - The closure of the Live feature in the TikTok application has suddenly become a public spotlight. Since August 30, 2025, the platform from China has decided to temporarily suspend live broadcast services in Indonesia.

This policy was taken voluntarily by TikTok for security reasons, especially after rampant rallies that led to violence in a number of areas.

Responding to this, the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid said the government appreciated TikTok's steps. However, he hopes that the termination of the feature will not last long.

"We also saw from TikTok's notification that they did voluntarily for the closure of the live feature and we hoped that this would take a long time," Meutya said after a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, as quoted by ANTARA.

He added that President Prabowo Subianto also emphasized that the government is open to public aspirations, including public views on the existence of the TikTok Live feature.

According to Meutya, although this closure has quite an impact on MSME actors who usually use live broadcasts to sell, digital trading activities can still run through other features.

"If conditions gradually improve, hopefully the TikTok live feature can return," he said.

The Minister of Trade also hopes that the situation will be conducive soon so that business actors can return to maximal use of digital platforms.

Meanwhile, TikTok in its statement explained that the temporary closure of the Live feature was carried out to prevent abuse and keep the digital space safe and healthy for its users.
