JAKARTA – Google says the Pixel 10 series will have a locked Battery Health Assist feature. This means users won't have the option to disable it.
This feature, which is also available on the Pixel 9, is designed to slow down battery degradation. Google will slow down battery wear by lowering the charging speed and voltage.
On the Pixel 10 series, this feature will activate automatically after 200 charge cycles. After that, the battery voltage will be gradually lowered until 1,000 cycles are reached. Google believes this feature will allow the battery to age more evenly.
While Google is working to improve battery health, this feature may reduce usable battery capacity. Users may experience shorter battery life and longer charging times.
Google hasn't detailed how much capacity will be lost. However, according to Android Central, the company stated that the Pixel 8 and later will retain 80 percent of their original capacity after 1,000 charge cycles.
Google still offers 1,000 charge cycles on the Pixel 10 series, but it's unclear whether users will be able to fully utilize its capacity. Google has not yet issued a statement regarding this.
Google is likely launching this feature to prevent similar issues with the Pixel 6a in the future. This phone experienced quite extreme battery issues, with some even exploding due to overheating.
Battery Health Assist can mitigate similar issues. The Pixel 10 series will likely avoid overheating or other heat-related issues. However, this prevention also impacts the phone's durability in the future.
