JAKARTA – Hundreds of thousands of Grok conversations were recently leaked. These conversations with users were publicly accessible through Google Search, Google's popular search engine.
According to a Forbes report, Elon Musk's Artificial Intelligence (AI) model could leak user data through a single action. This issue occurs when a user taps the Share button after speaking with the AI model.
Each time a user clicks the Share button, a unique URL is generated. This URL can be shared via email, text message, or social media. The problem is that this URL is indexed by search engines like Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo.
This allows anyone to search and read Grok's conversations with its users on the web. This leak raises serious concerns and demonstrates that Grok's data privacy is not well-maintained.
User Conversations Exposed
In addition to the data breach issue highlighted, the content of Grok's conversations with its users has also attracted considerable attention. Some requests were deemed unethical or even dangerous.
Some users asked extreme questions, such as how to hack crypto wallets and instructions on how to make drugs. Others engaged in dirty or sexual conversations with Grok.
This raises questions about the limitations and uses of chatbots. Although xAI's regulations prohibit the use of bots for malicious purposes, many users still attempt to ask dangerous questions.
Surprisingly, Grok is even able to provide answers. In one conversation, Grok is seen providing instructions on how to make fentanyl. Another conversation included tips on building bombs and plans to assassinate Elon Musk.
To date, xAI has not commented. It is unclear when xAI began indexing Grok's conversations and exposing them to the internet.
