JAKARTA Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes that smart glasses will dominate technology in the future. This is driven by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into the glasses.

"glasses will basically be the ideal form factor for AI, because you can let AI see what you see throughout the day, hear what you hear (and) talk to you," Zuckerberg said in a earnings call, reported by TechCrunch on Friday, August 1.

Although smart glasses like Ray-Ban and Meta are quite sophisticated, Zuckerberg believes that this device would be much better if they added a screen to it. The concept is to bring virtual reality headset (VR) capabilities into glasses.

With this mix of technologies, Zuckerberg believes that people who don't have AI-based glasses in the future will be disadvantaged. Zuckerberg believes that people will be one step ahead wearing smart glasses.

"I think in the future, if you don't have AI-enhanced glasses, or ways to interact with AI, I think you ... will suffer significant cognitive losses compared to other people," Zuckerberg said.

Meta is one of the technology companies that focuses on developing smart glasses, even successful in its development. This is evident from Ray-Ban's smart glasses which were popular some time ago.

With these glasses, users can listen to music, take photos and videos, and ask Meta AI about what they see. Thanks to the mix of features, sales of Ray-Ban Meta glasses have increased more than 3 times year-on-year (YoY).

Despite its increasing revenue, the Reality Labs division experienced an operating loss of US$4.53 billion (Rp74.8 trillion) this quarter with a total of US$70 billion (Rp1.15 quadrillion) since 2020. However, Zuckerberg is still optimistic about AI development in glasses and other devices.
